Tufts School of Medicine seeks students who are dedicated to understanding and improving the health of individuals, communities, and the world at large.
Our online Master of Science in Health Informatics & Analytics program is designed for professionals or recent graduates interested in working with health data to yield meaningful information and improve health outcomes.
Our online master’s program offers three start dates per year—in January, May, and September. Our admissions process is rolling, which means applications are reviewed in the order they are received.

If you submit your application by the priority deadline, you will be eligible to receive an application fee waiver.
It is common, but not required, for our students to enter the program with a background in healthcare, technology, information management, or data science; however, we encourage individuals from diverse cultural, academic, and professional backgrounds to apply.
To be considered for admission, you must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university. You will also need to submit:
No test scores are required. However, we will accept scores from the GRE, GMAT, MCAT, and DAT if you choose to provide them. We encourage you to consider taking the GRE as a way to demonstrate your quantitative abilities if your undergraduate degree program did not include quantitative course work (e.g., statistics, data analysis, algebra) or if you do not have an employment background in an industry requiring quantitative skills. GRE test scores can be submitted electronically to Tufts School of Medicine using the CEEB code 4472.
We require all previously attended colleges and universities to submit your transcripts directly to the Office of Graduate Admission Processing, regardless of if you earned a degree. Transcripts can be submitted electronically to email@example.com or sent by mail to:

Be sure to include your academic and professional experience as well as any elements of your background that relate to the health informatics and analytics field.
Statement of Purpose and Short-Answer Questions
Your statement of purpose should highlight why you are interested in health informatics and analytics in general and the Tufts online program in particular. It should also address your career objectives and how this program will help you achieve those goals.
In addition to this statement, you should select two of the following three prompts and answer each in a short statement of 250 words or fewer. You are encouraged to use these prompts to provide information to the Admissions Committee that you have not already discussed in your statement of purpose.
Option 1: Describe a time you felt challenged in an academic course. What strategies did you use to overcome that challenge?
Option 2: Describe the process you used to teach yourself a new skill outside of an academic experience.
Option 3: Describe a situation where either you were not treated fairly on the basis of your identity, or you personally observed such treatment for someone else. How did you handle it? Would you have done anything differently?
Letters of Recommendation
Three letters of recommendation are required. If possible, all letters should come from an academic reference (i.e., an instructor who taught you in a college-level course). If you were not recently enrolled in academic courses, letters of reference from professional supervisors are preferred. You should request your letters from individuals who are most familiar with your academic and professional history and career goals.
Committee letters provided by your pre-health advising office are also accepted, but please note the committee letter must contain three separate letters of recommendation (and cannot be just a summary letter). Letters of recommendation from friends, coworkers, or relatives are discouraged.
The nonrefundable application fee is $70. If you submit your application before the priority deadline, you are eligible for a waiver. Additional candidates for the application fee waiver include members of the military, Tufts alumni, McNair Scholar recipients, AmeriCorps volunteers, active-service Peace Corps volunteers, and City Year AmeriCorps members.

Requirements for International Applicants
The School of Medicine requires all applicants who have studied outside of the United States to have completed the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree and to have their transcripts evaluated by a credential evaluation service.
All study completed outside of the U.S. requires a foreign transcript evaluation, including undergraduate degrees, graduate degrees, and course work that did not result in a degree earned. Note: Study abroad work that was completed as part of an undergraduate program in the U.S. does not require credential evaluation.
Please be aware that the online MS in Health Informatics & Analytics program does not qualify you for a student visa to study in the United States, since most work is completed virtually. You will be required to visit the Tufts University campus in Boston, Massachusetts, for a three-day immersion event.
Transcript Evaluation Services
Tufts University School of Medicine requires a course-by-course evaluation of original transcripts. There are several organizations that offer this service:
Provide evidence of enrollment for two or more years (four or more semesters) in a degree-granting college or university located in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand.
Provide evidence of full-time, paid employment for two or more years at an organization located in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand.
The following are not accepted as proof of English proficiency:
United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) scores, or any other test of English, except the TOEFL or the IELTS exam
TOEFL scores under 100 on the Internet-based exam or IELTS scores below a 7.0
Evidence of enrollment at an institution of higher education that lists English as the primary language of instruction, unless that school is in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand
