Tuition and Financial Aid

Graduate education is an investment in your future, and it’s important that you have the resources to explore your options and support throughout the process.

Tuition and Fees

The online Master of Public Health (MPH) program requires you to complete 42 credits to earn your degree. Tuition is $1,777 per credit for the 2020–2021 academic year. The total tuition for the program is approximately $74,634 at the current tuition rate. There is an additional $277 fee for the fall and spring semesters.

In addition to tuition costs, you are responsible for covering transportation and other costs related to the Applied Learning Experience. You are also responsible for the costs of your textbooks and other course materials.

Please note that tuition is subject to change and moderate increases are to be expected each academic year. To confirm a place in the program, admitted candidates must pay a nonrefundable $500 deposit that will be applied to tuition.

Financial Aid

When you are planning how you will fund your master’s degree, you can explore a number of options that might be available to you.

We encourage you to apply for financial aid while applying for admission to allow adequate time for the Office of Financial Aid to process your application. You do not have to wait for an acceptance letter to apply for aid.

Employer Support

Earning your degree online while working allows you to apply what you have learned in real time. As a result, many employers are willing to support continuing education.

As you research how to fund your master’s degree, we recommend you speak to your employer to see if they offer tuition support programs. You can reach out to your human resources department or manager to start the process. An admissions counselor can also advise you on the most effective ways to approach this conversation.

Federal Loans

U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible to apply for federal student aid (FSA) programs through the U.S. Department of Education (ED), including:

  • Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans: Most graduate-level students are potentially eligible to receive up to $20,500 per academic year with the Direct Unsubsidized Loan. Learn more about graduate annual loan limits.
  • Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loans: The Direct Graduate PLUS Loan requires credit check approval. If approved, you can borrow up to the cost of attendance, minus any other aid received, and as determined by the school.

To apply for these loans, you must first complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online. Use your FSA ID, which can be created on the Federal Student Aid website, and add the Tufts University School of Medicine school code: E00520.

Tufts University School of Medicine does not use the GradPLUS Approval process on studentaid.gov. However, prospective students can securely submit their financial aid documents via the Tufts Box website.

Private Loans

Several banks and private lenders offer education loans for financing graduate school education. While most students are able to pay all educational expenses using federal loans, some students opt to borrow private loans instead. Borrowers should consider the fees, interest rate, and repayment terms before borrowing loans as it will vary among lenders. While some private loans may offer comparable terms to federal loans, repayment terms may not offer as much flexibility as federal loans provide.
